Tom,,is my long time friend ..I treat him as my big brother.. 
 Tom,,me and my daughter missed you so much,,thank you for helping me about my clip left pallet daughter..I. Thankful to have a good friend like  you...thank you thank you so much 

There is more than enough pain to go around. Tom was tortured most days of his life with mental illness. I can’t imagine the strength it took for him to live on as long as he did. So, Tom is not in pain anymore. That is the only good in this. 

My brother Tom was, at times, my only ally and best friend and at other times, as all older brothers are, my tormenter. Tom felt the profound in the mundane. He over thought most things. He liked to think, and he did a lot of it. 

When I was 6 years old Tom would push me on my bike to what felt like amazing speeds. He would push me on my bike until it got so fast he had to hop on and we’d speed down the hill and crash into hay bales.

Tom had a deep kindness in him. He cared about things and people most of us ignore. He also had this mischievous smile that would make you laugh so hard.

Tom would master things and then never do them again. He was an expert saxophonist as child, so much that he played in Count Basie’s Youth Orchestra. He could draw portraits and cartoons to an expert level. He was a body builder at one time. He would master things and then forget them and move on.

Tom was alway searching for answers, for peace, for happiness.

I want to thank the Kansas City Fire Department that, no matter what, kept him employed and provided him with an income and a second family. 

I want to thank the health care providers who tried to help him over the years and the Kansas City Police Department

When Brenden and I were planning our wedding we wanted to make it special so we decided to get married on Johnna's birthday. We also wanted Tom to be the officiant at the wedding. So we asked him and he made it possible. That day was so special because not only did Tom make the ceremony beautiful but he also helped around like setting up the arch and helping my mom decorate. Tom used to come over Sundays and would practice wing chung with Brenden. They were so close, Brenden loved Tom very much. Our future kids will know who Tom was and how important he was to us.

I need to take this opportunity, to tell you how much I love you, I love you with my whole heart spirit and soul, you are my best friend, my 2nd little brother, Wanted to thank you for helping My 2 sons and me after my wife  Passed away, You were always there for me making sure my spirit was balance and I was in good health and was  eating right,  Thank you for coming over every Thursday, I will always look forward to seeing you every Thursday ,that was the highlight of my whole week ,was spending a whole day with you, even if we just sat there and watch Kung Fu movies, Or practice Kung Fu ourselves or just sit there and did nothing at all, Thank you for your presence of your spirit body mind and soul, I can never repay you for what you have done for me, Your advice Is priceless, It move mountains in a lot of spirits,  You would answer an such a way,  That was out Of this world ,with your answers just like my wife did, That's  What help me balance, Knowing I could talk to you and you would have the same answers ,that my wife would give me , Now  I cannot Rely  On you physically ,
But I will rely on you spiritually mentally you will always help me still ,and you will never stop or let me go,  this I will never stop and let you go you will always be part of my life not matter what, I cannot imagine life Without you Tom, Thank you for being a bright light in this world, You help so many souls internally mentally and  Spiritually physically,  you do not even comprehend, How bright of a light in a blessing you were to the world, In especially our family, You gave up your own time and soul for us, You're amazingly thorough and everything you did, Even the littlest Situations,  Meant a lot to you you were super thorough more than  Anyone could ever imagine, I love you I miss you, I now will see you again Your loving Uncle Joseph S Estrada

I didn’t know Tom for long but his kindness and compassion were especially evident in his sweet and caring actions toward me when my husband, Dan, died. It was a most devastating time in my life and I will always remember Tom’s comforting presence and support. He will be greatly missed and my heart goes out to Lucy, his family, and all those who knew and loved Tom. 

My cousin Tom was one of the most compassionate individuals I've ever met. Some of my favorite memories with Tom are of us cruising around town. Whether teaching me to drive in the West Bottom parking lots or rides on his scooter. Once we even skidded out on some gravel and needless to say he stopped bringing the scooter. I remember Tom taking me to the fire station to see Uncle John and showing me all around. In fact, my only memories of Uncle John are with Tom. It's no surprise that Tom's compassion even extended to helping animals. I recall him once saving a injured goose that had been hit by a car. Or a chocolate lab he rescued and wanted to train to be a fire station dog. I think that mutual love of animals brought us together way back then. I will miss Tom and will forever cherish those moments with him. Rest easy friend 

Tom had such a pure heart and a sincere desire to help others. Every time I was around him it was an uplifting experience. When I was facing my own troubles my cousin Tom came by to see me almost every day that I was with my other cousin. He would tell me how great of a person I was and that I had the strength and love of family to get me through until I was better and that I had a bright future ahead of me. He was so encouraging every step of the way. I am certain that he has reached heaven and found the inner peace and balance that he could not find on this earth, surrounded by family and friends who have passed ahead of him. I will miss him greatly, but I know his spirit lives in all the acts of kindness that he showed selflessly to others.

Tom was the most selfless person.
He lived to help others.
He loved calling me his young Aunty and would often text me to tell me he loved me.. He'd share songs with me and his wing Chun videos that he absolutely loved.. His true passion was volunteering at the crisis center. Many years ago Tom had an infatuation with duct tape. He visited a home patient who had duct tape over everything in his house and had even used it on his bedsores. After seeing this Tom dropped his duct tape obsession! 
Seeing Tom made my day! He looked so much like my dear sister Johnna that it was like seeing her. It made my heart Happy to see a part of her still living. 
I will always miss you and wish I had the opportunity to tell you what a difference you made in my life.. thank you for all your little acts of kindness.. I will never forget your rare smile 😊 thank you for making the collage gift for us before passing.. total Tom move, thinking of others before himself. May you rest in peace ❤️ also Thank you for your public service.

Proud to share the Tvedten patented upside down smile. 

Tom's uncle, my late husband John Tvedten, was a mentor and father figure to Tom and Tom was a frequent visitor to our home. He was a good man and he had a great wife in Lucy.  I'm so sad for her in her loss of Tom.  
I do have a humorous memory to share: Tom was staying with my son Tyler while we were out (Tyler was around 6 or 7) and he fell asleep on the couch. Tyler drew circles around Tom's eyes (like eyeglasses) and curly mustache marks. It was pretty funny until we all realized that Tyler had used a permanent marker. I can still picture Tom at our kitchen sink trying to scrub off the marks.  He was such a good sport!
More  importantly, he was a good, kind and loving person.
We loved him and we wish him final peace.  


On behalf of the Valor Recovery Program, I’d like to send my sincere condolences to Tom’s family. He was an amazing person that we had the pleasure of knowing. Tom had a special way of bringing a smile out of every person he came in contact with. We will truly miss you! May God provide peace and comfort to the Tvedten Family in this time of sorrow.

You were always kind to others.

Tom was a very giving, intelligent, and compassionate man. The last time I physically saw him was at my little sister Johnna's funeral. We had dinner together and talked for hours. After that, since I'm on the west coast, we emailed often. We discussed the world and everything within it in long, thoughtful, and often profound emails. Tom carried on the family tradition of being a fire fighter/first responder, like his grandpa, John H. Tvedten, who was KCFD fire chief at the time of his death in the collapse of the Hyatt, and his uncle, John O. H. Tvedten, who was a Battalion Chief and served as a mentor to Tom up until he was killed in the line of duty in the paper warehouse fire in December of 1999. I loved and admired Tom enormously. I wish I still had all those emails to reflect back on.

Tom was my big brother. He was always good about imparting knowledge onto his little siblings. When we were young he introduced me dungeons and dragons and the vocal stylings of Paula Abdul.  He was a great conversationalist and an even better listener. He had great empathy for all. Although we didn't stay in touch as we grew older he is often in my thoughts.
