Maria Palmina DiSpirito Grasso, 86, of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children on January 23, 2019. Maria was born on March 11, 1932 in Caserta, Italy, a daughter of the late Angelo and Catarina DiSpirita. She was one of nine children. She and her beloved husband Silvio Grasso were married on June 12, 1949 and they came to the United States in 1956.They made their first home in Hartford where she worked as a seamstress for many years. They later moved to Glastonbury where she raised her family and worked as a housekeeper for over 35 years. Maria believed that family always came first above all. She cherished family gathering with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her second love was for her acre garden which was featured in the Hartford Courant. She enjoyed taking long walks and cooking. Bread making was her specialty, along with homemade spaghetti and raviolis. Her favorite place to be was either in the garden or at the beach where she enjoyed walking during low tide and watching the sunset. Her arms were always open to whoever entered her home. As a devout Catholic, she had a strong belief in God. She will always be remembered by her great grandchildren by her pride she took in making delicious homemade cookies. She will be dearly missed by her entire family; children Anna Valente of South Glastonbury, Anthony Grasso of Glastonbury, Angelo Grasso of Old Lyme, Aida Morin of Andover, Angela Grasso of Glastonbury, five grandchildren; Gaberiele Valente, Lisa Fagan, Jennifer Grasso, Krystina Grasso, Michael Morin, five great grandchildren; Caitlin, Kaylee, Shawn, Siena, Michael Jr., and sister Antoinette Grasso of Glastonbury and many relatives in Italy. All are welcome to a period of visitation on Monday, January 28, 2019, 4pm-7pm at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk., Glastonbury CT 06033. Services will begin on Tuesday, January 29, at 9am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Dunstan's Church, 1345 Manchester Rd., Glastonbury.
