Angel (Sonny) Dominguez was born in Phoenix, Arizona on December 15, 1941, to the parents of Angel and Esperanza. From the very beginning, he was recognized as a cherished husband and father, as well as a devoted brother and friend. Throughout his life, Angel (Sonny) exemplified dedication and a strong work ethic, always striving to support and care for those around him. In November 1961, he married Armida Lopez, the love of his life, and together they built a loving home and raised three children: Irene (Reenie), Diana, and Angel (Buddy Boy) III. His deep love for his family remained at the heart of everything he did, shaping his journey and leaving a lasting impact on each member of his family.

In his early adulthood, Angel (Sonny) dedicated several years to working in a restaurant known as Neptune’s Table. He worked many years as a chef and loved it so well that he would come home and show us his famous meals.

Driven by a desire to secure his family’s financial future, Angel (Sonny) eventually made the decision to transition into the construction industry. He became a skilled cement mason and finisher, demonstrating both expertise and dedication in his new field. Angel’s (Sonny’s) commitment extended beyond his own work; he generously imparted his knowledge to friends and family, teaching them the skills required for the job. Through his guidance and mentorship, he helped others build successful careers, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship and camaraderie.

Throughout his life, Angel (Sonny) played an instrumental role in shaping the landscape of his community by contributing to the construction of numerous iconic structures. His work helped bring to life renowned landmarks such as Bank One Ball Park, America West Arena, the Intel Building, Cardinals Stadium, Metro Center, Paradise Valley, and Westridge Malls. In addition, he was involved in the development of Desert Ridge-Marriott Resort and countless neighborhoods across the area, including Camelback Mountain, Sun City, and Vistancia. These enduring achievements stand as a testament to Angel (Sonny’s) dedication and skilled craftsmanship, leaving a lasting mark that will be appreciated by generations to come. He continued his work until his illness made it impossible for him to carry on. His kindness, warmth, and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His unwavering spirit and dedication will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Camping, fishing, and hunting were among his favorite activities, providing him with moments of relaxation and joy in nature's embrace. He enthusiastically shared these experiences with friends, children, his sons-in-law, and grandchildren, creating cherished memories through each outing. His passion for outdoor pursuits brought his loved ones closer together, leaving them with lasting stories and traditions that will be fondly remembered.

Angel (Sonny) is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Armida Dominguez; his three children: Irene {Reenie} (Gilbert) Garcia, Diana (John Richardson) Dominguez-Kutcher, and Angel (Buddy Boy) Dominguez III. He is also remembered by his siblings: Socorro Rodriguez, Ernestine Gamboa, Cecilia Wolf, Arthur Cordova, Steven Hernandez, Theresa Kaye, Bertha Williams, Dave Cordova, Gilbert Cordova, Danny Cordova, Ramona Hernandez-Vega, Rudy Cordova, Ricardo Hernandez, Ephram Cordova, and George Cordova.
Angel (Sonny) leaves behind a loving and extensive family, each member a testament to his enduring influence and legacy. He is survived by six grandchildren: Gilbert (Daniele) Garcia, Joseph (Debbie) Garcia, Anthony (Destiny) Garcia, Katina (Gabriel) De La Cruz, Kristopher (Danielle) Kutcher, and Trisha (Andrew) Appelbaum. His impact continues through eleven great-grandchildren, including Jasmyn Carbajal (Adrian), Brooke Garcia, Alexis Garcia, Sunny Garcia, Joseph G. Garcia, Christian Bass, Aiden Garcia, Bobby Kutcher, Lielah Kutcher, Violet Appelbaum, and Adam Kutcher. The family legacy extends further to one great-great grandchild, Liam Carbajal. Alongside these cherished descendants, a host of relatives and friends remain dedicated to honoring Angel’s (Sonny’s) memory, ensuring that his kindness, love, and spirit will be carried forward for generations to come.

Memorial Service Details
The memorial service for Angel (Sonny) Dominguez will take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to gather at West Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 6450 W Northern Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301. The service will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 11:00 a.m.
Following the memorial, a Mass service will be held at Saint Simon and Jude Cathedral Church,6351 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85017, beginning at 12:00 p.m. This Mass will honor Angel’s (Sonny’s) remarkable life and legacy, celebrating the impact he had on all who knew him.
May Angel (Sonny) rest in peace, and may his memory serve as an enduring source of inspiration for all those whose lives he influenced. Until we meet again.
