Arlene, as she liked to be called, was loved by so many people. She was one of the happiest people we all knew. She was born with not having the ability to smile due to a diagnosis she got much later in her life of Moebius Syndrome. She looked grumpy, but once you got to know her, you would swear that she could actually smile.
Arlene loved to read books, especially those by Danielle Steele. She also made sure to watch her daily soap operas like Young and the Restless and Days of our Lives. On Wednesday nights, Arlene found a fun time in singing karaoke at The American Legion Post #29 in Glendale, Arizona. Some of her favorite tunes to sing were Blueberry Hill and Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah (A Letter from Camp). Sadly, Arlene didn’t get to enjoy these activities in the last year of her life after her hip was broken.
Arlene is preceded in death by her former husband Ben, mother Rita, father Arthur, and brothers; Clayton Booth and Ernie Salter, and two grandchildren, Amanda and Cody.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kay Campbell of Michigan, Terrie Nielsen of Texas, Denise Hardy of Arizona, and one son Doug Smith of Utah. Step children Phyliss, Valerie and Glen Smith and, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Arlene is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Harms, Jerry Salter, Janie Shimek and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene had an unforgettable personality and contagious laugh and, she will be missed terribly by all that knew her.
A Celebration of Arlene’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at West Resthaven Funeral Home; 6450 West Northern Avenue Glendale, Arizona 85301.
