David was born January 23, 1945 (when asked his birthday, he always said “12345”) to the late Bennie and Martha (Tomke) Hansen in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. He resided in Luck Wisconsin, until age 10, and then he continued his rebel rousing ways in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he graduated Johnson High School, Class of 1963. In 1965, David enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served until 1969. His service included a tour in Cat Lo, Vietnam with The Black Cats Coastal River Division 13 (1968-1969). A black cat and the number 13 became his good luck charms. In 1967, David married Barbara and in August 1975, with two young children in tow, they headed out to Arizona, where they would have another child and live their happily ever after. David attended trade school for HVAC and joined the Local 469, a member for 30 years. He enjoyed boating and fishing. Never one to leave a stone unturned, he would bring home stray animals and lend a helping hand. Teacher, mentor, husband, dad, brother, authority figure…he was many things to many people.
David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; daughters Heather Hansen, Becky (Ted) Rescola; son David (Natalie) Hansen; brothers Bob (Marcia) Hansen, Jim (Becky) Hansen; sister Mary (the late John) Steen; grandchildren Celeste and Davin (David) Hansen, Daly and Beau (Becky) Rescola and several nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents; brothers LeRoy (Gladys) Hansen and Ronald (Karin) Hansen.
As David never met a stranger and was always the last to leave, a celebration of life will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Monday, August 15th beginning with breakfast at 8:00 am, visitation 10:00-11:00, celebration 11:00-12:30. A graveside service with honors will follow at the National Cemetery of Arizona at 2pm
The family wishes to extend their love and gratitude to Jess at Desert Valley Hospice and the entire staff at Peoria Post-Acute Care and Rehabilitation for the great care shown to David as well as support to the family.
