The youngest of seven children, David was born on March 30, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to the late William and Merna Hunt. In 1946, he relocated with his parents to Glendale, Arizona, where he resided until his passing.
David met his wife, Donna Taylor, in the fifth grade, although she did not begin noticing him until after high school. David and Donna married on June 28, 1957, sharing nearly 65 years of marriage, three children, and nine grandchildren together.
Like so many of his generation, David felt called to serve his country and enlisted in the military once he turned 18. After serving in the Arizona Air National Guard for three years, he focused on completing his degree in Architecture from Arizona State University and starting a family. In 1961, David was recalled to active duty and deployed to West Germany near the end of the Berlin Crisis.
Upon returning home, David began his career as an architect, eventually founding his own commercial architectural firm. He developed a niche in K-12 school architecture, believing that students should have the opportunity to learn in welcoming, inspiring, and collaborative spaces. David designed dozens of schools throughout Arizona. His favorite project, however, was designing Glendale Fire Department Station 157, which he said made him feel like a boy again.
David’s faith in Jesus Christ was a central focus throughout his life. A member of Glendale First Baptist Church and later North Phoenix Baptist Church, David served his church community in various roles ranging from deacon to Sunday School teacher. He was passionate about spreading the Gospel, and served on the board of directors for CBInternational, a Conservative Baptist missionary organization now known as WorldVenture. David was on the original board of directors for IDEAS, a faith-based nonprofit that identifies opportunities for professionals to work in developing communities throughout the world.
David is survived by his wife Donna, three children Belinda (David) Zehr, Lee Ann (Darryl) Davis, and William (Niyom) Hunt, sister Dessa Orem, and nine grandchildren Brandis Zehr, Danielle Zehr, David Zehr, Nathanial Davis, Taylor Davis, Caleb Davis, Natthanicha Uppathe, David Hunt, and Jonathan Hunt.
In addition to his parents, David’s five siblings Judson Hunt, Ronald Hunt, Warren Hunt, Geneva Ender, and Betty Hunt preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 2PM in one of David's own designs, the Chapel at North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix.
