David Jesse Morris, 71, passed away on April 1, 2026. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 14, 1955, David lived in Colorado and Wyoming before moving to Lakewood, Washington at the age of 8. He graduated from Lakes High School in 1974 and later moved to Phoenix, Arizona to attend Southwestern College, where he met his wife, LaVonne. From that point on, David’s life was marked by a steady devotion to faith, family, and the simple, meaningful routines that make a home. David will be remembered as a humorous, gentle, faithful, devoted, and thoughtful man whose quiet presence carried a steady warmth.
David worked as a mover for most of his career, bringing the same care and reliability to his work that he brought to the people he loved. He also served his church communities with faithfulness, serving as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church and Passages Christian Fellowship.
A creative spirit, David found joy in making pottery, macramé, and leatherwork. He collected antique guns, kept tropical fish, and tended his rose bushes with patient attention. He especially loved going out to eat breakfast—an everyday pleasure that became a cherished tradition. Though quiet by nature, David always appreciated a good dad joke or pun, and many will smile remembering his well-known “You look like Santa” shirt, which he wore every Christmas for more than 20 years.
David is survived by his wife, LaVonne; his daughter Kara; son-in-law Chris; son Christopher; granddaughters Savannah and Caroline; sisters Verla, Joelyn, and Debbie; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Carmen, father Jesse, and his sister Lavon.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Banner Thunderbird CVICU for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided to David and his family during a difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 2nd, at 10:00 a.m. at Phoenix Christian Preparatory School Chapel, 1751 W. Indian School Road. The chapel is located on the northwest corner of Fairmount and 18th Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the American Lung Association.
