Deborah Joanne Luna, a devoted, hard-working, and thoughtful woman, passed away on July 14, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on November 1, 1952, in Phoenix, Arizona, Deborah spent her formative years immersed in the rich culture of her cherished state. She attended Carl Hayden Community High School, a place that laid the foundation for her values and work ethic.
Deborah enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an accountant. Known for her dedication and commitment, she never missed a day of work throughout her professional life. Even after working a long day, she came home every evening and made a delicious dinner for her children. Fast food was seldom an option in their home. Her strong work ethic served as an inspiration to her children, whom she guided with love and support.
Deborah's heart found its match when she met Phil, her beloved husband, at one of his concerts. Despite an amusing first encounter over a drink, their bond deepened, leading to a marriage on July 1, 1978, that was filled with love and music. Their union brought the joy of two children and countless shared experiences supporting Phil's musical career. Even after Phil's passing in 2017, Deborah continued to honor his spirit by remaining active in the local music scene. She could still often be found enjoying a margarita or a glass of wine while enjoying the lively music. If there was live music playing, Deborah was in her element.
Her family remained the center of her universe. Deborah was a cherished mother to her children and an adored Nana to her grandchildren, always making sure to be present at every important event in their lives. Known for her exceptional Green Chili and renowned Cochitos, Deborah's home was a haven of warmth and culinary delights. She was the heartbeat of family traditions, hosting holiday gatherings where she graciously took on the roles of chef and Present Master during Christmas celebrations. Each Christmas, with presents surrounding the tree, Deborah would grab each gift one by one to read out the name and pass each gift out, building anticipation as to what could be inside those beautifully wrapped boxes.
In her personal life, Deborah found great joy in watching soap operas like "Days of Our Lives" and "General Hospital," as well as crime shows like "Blue Bloods." Her loyalty to Arizona sports teams was unwavering, as was her affinity for local live music. In her later years, she rediscovered companionship and love with George, an old friend, with whom she traveled extensively and shared numerous life experiences. They bonded over their shared experiences with grief and were able to support each other and find the joy in life again. Together, they got to enjoy the best experiences retirement life had to offer.
Her legacy is that of forgiveness, kindness, and unyielding dedication to her family, leaving behind a tapestry of memories enriched by her presence.
Deborah is survived by her daughter, Veronica Luna (John West); her son, Gabriel Luna (Angela Spaulding); her grandchildren, Mia Gallup, Murray West, Oliver West, John Spaulding, and Orion Luna; her companion, George Ferrero; and her brother, Joey Valdez (Sylvia Valdez). She was predeceased by her husband, Phil Luna.
Her family and friends will remember Deborah as the glue that held them together, celebrating her life with fondness and gratitude for the love and memories she shared.
