Donnie Ray Hunter born on August 6, 1947, in Princeton, MO, went home to Heaven on Sunday, May 18, 2014 in Glendale, AZ. He was predeceased by his son, Gary. He is survived by Bonnie his wife of 42 years, brother Robert (wife Bonnie) and twin sister, Alice Holmes. Also survived by stepchildren, Donald, Donna, and Thomas, granddaughter Christina, many nieces, nephews and grandchildren of Robert and Alice.
After serving 3yrs in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division he returned home to Phoenix. He began his career with the Phoenix Division of Safeway in October 1969, retired after 40yrs of excellent service. Don took all his responsibilities very seriously, giving his all. Being the reserved and private individual that he was, most people were unaware of Don’s many lifelong awards, honors and accomplishments.
Don was a great man, standing tall and firm in his beliefs but with always a gentle heart. He lived life to the fullest in every area of his life both private and public. His Faith was an absolute and he never wavered. We will miss him. Those close to him will never forget the Grace, Faith, dignity and bravery he bore under such incredible pain and pressure. The cancers won over and took his 6’4” worldly body. Our Heavenly Father gently took his hand, releasing Donnie from all pain and suffering into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service in Donnie's honor will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 PM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary on 7942 N. 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ. In lieu of flowers the family has request donations be sent to:
