Elsie A Runyon

Elsie Alice (Roller) Runyon has joined her husband of over 50 years and her two brothers and seven sisters in Heaven after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the youngest of 10 children born on the family farm in Elmore City, OK on October 30, 1922. Her marriage with Ollie was blessed with 3 sons, Derrel (Brenda) of Prescott, AZ, Keith (Sharalon) of Albuquerque, NM, and Van (Joy) of Queen Creek, AZ. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

Her hard work ethic learned on the family farm helped her to move up in her career with the school district. She started as a cafeteria worker at Washington Elementary School, and she taught herself shorthand and typing so she could advance to secretary to the principal and eventually to the district payroll officer. After her 40+ years of service to the district her retirement gave her the time to follow in her passion of gardening and fishing. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ollie at Resthaven Cemetery in Glendale. The funeral service begins Tuesday 2/11/14 at 10:30 am with a visitation from 10-10:30. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice are welcomed.
