Evelyn Bailey

Mary Evelyn (Holder) Bailey was born in Mount Vernon, Texas to the late Bessie Sharp Holder and the late Felix Holder. She passed away on March 11, 2025 in Sun City, Arizona. She was 97 years old.

Evelyn was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughters Vivi Villarreal (Jesse, dec.), Millie Gamboa (Frank), Nancy Abrams (Mike), Jan Bailey, grandchild Joey Gamboa, niece Julie, nephew Gary. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Bailey, siblings Lucy Smith, Bobbie Lydic, and Johnny Holder, nephews Harold, Sam, and Donny.

Evelyn graduated from Peoria High School and Lamson Business College. She became a legal secretary and one of her job interviews was with a local female attorney - Sandra Day O'Connor. She went on to work for 25 years at a prestigious Phoenix law firm. Following that Evelyn worked for the State of Arizona as Administrative Secretary to the Director of the Arizona Department of Administration. She enjoyed doing crosswords, crocheting afghans and gardening.

Evelyn always had a smile for everyone she met and a way of making them feel special. Her positive attitude and welcoming manner will be greatly missed.

Evelyn will be laid to rest at Westhaven Park Cemetery. There she will wait for the hour she will hear His voice and come out of the memorial tomb to a resurrection of life. (John 5:28)

Services will be held on Monday April 7, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary; 7924 North 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ
