James Harrison Collins, 78 of Sun City West joined the Navy in 1954 at the age of 18. In 1957 he married Shirley Gregory in Grand Junction, Colorado. On July 5, 2014 James and Shirley celebrated 57 years of marriage. James is survived by his wife; Shirley, 2 sons; Ray E. Collins and daughter in law Nita Collins of Lewisville, TX., James Harrison Collins Jr. and daughter in law Brenda Collins of Midwest City, OK., 4 grandchildren; Shannon White, Brandon Collins, Chrystal Beeson and Kate Collins, 7 great grandchildren; brother, Garland Collins, 2 sisters; Nadine Tullius and Margie McNeece all of Port Angeles, WA. While living in Grand Junction, Colorado James worked at the Uranium Mine until moving to Port Angeles, WA where he worked as an Electrician for over 25 years with ITT Rayonier, a wood pulp plant. He was the President of the Chess Club in Washington and was a true die-hard Chess player. He could and would play day and night, skip meals and even miss a good night’s sleep to get in a game of Chess. James was a family man, he loved his family. All of his free time was spent with his family, playing board games, cards, fishing and hunting. He will truly be missed by all that knew and loved him. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 11:00am-12:00pm with Funeral Service to directly follow at West Resthaven Funeral Home 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Arizona 85301. Burial will take place at Resthaven Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Banner Hospice 275 E. Germann Rd., Suite 110 Gilbert, Arizona 85297
