He is the second of four children born to the late John Joesph Zolyniak Sr. And Lottie (Katzmuski) Zolyniak. John attended school in Ohio, until his family relocated to Arizona in 1957.
John landed a job at the age of seventeen with Capitol Castings, the same company his father, John Sr. was employed with. John retired after forty-nine years with the company. John also started his own welding company in 1968, named Basic Metals, in Phoenix, Arizona. He sold his half of the business in 1976. John owned two other companies as well. John was Extremely smart and very talented with his hands, there was nothing that John couldn’t fix or build, and he enjoyed teaching and working with anyone who asked for his help. He especially enjoyed working with family members to improve their handy work skills.
John was a very giving and loving man, who prioritized his family over everything else. The happiest times for him were spent with family. John was at every event his children had, from softball and football games to school concerts; he never missed a single event. John loved to laugh and enjoyed the simple things in life. He became a friend to nearly everyone he came across. John took joy and pride in the success and happiness of those closest to him. Admired and loved by many throughout his life, he was a humble, generous, smart, and caring father that put family first.
John loved the opportunity to travel and spend quality time with family members. He would take a trip every year to spend at least a month back East, were he would visit his niece Mary Kearny, her husband Iva Bassist and their three children, while also spending time with his brother Jack Zolyniak and his wife Cindy. In recent years, John was accompanied in his visits by his wife Betty, his daughter Christina, his granddaughter Taylor, his grandson Cristipher, and his great grandson Mason. He enjoyed taking them all on a journey to see his childhood the town he grew up in, to show them his old house and school he attended, and to meet some of his distant relatives. John was always so happy to talk about his life to his children and grandchildren.
He went on a yearly camping trip with his son-in-laws Wesley Bohmler, Pat Seery, grandsons Vincent and T.J Bohmler, John Micheal, Nicholas, Cristipher, and family on his wife’s side. He took a trip to see his son Ted and his partner Rachel in Seattle, with his wife and grandson Cristipher. He also traveled to see his daughter Sharon and her family in Colorado and took along his wife, daughter Christina and grandson Cristipher. John went on several cruises with his wife Betty where they explored Canada, Alaska, Spain, Germany and Europe. There were many more events and trips with family, and John loved every one of them.
John met the love of his life, Betty, on a blind date arranged by friends. A short time after on August 28, 1962, John and Betty were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Glendale, Arizona. They had four children together––Anna, Sharon, Christina, and Ted. John and Betty lived in Phoenix until moving to Tempe in 1978 where they raised their children.
