It's so awesome to see Josh's art work now...he was my husband Eric Romero's best friend growing up, and let's just say they used me as there ginny pig one day...lol...Josh always having his bestie's back (Eric) they decided they were going to tattoo Eric's name on the back of my neck... and then Josh got to work... let's just say he dug that name so hard and thick and dark on my neck that I couldn't get rid of it if I tried. Either way I was the first tattoo Josh ever did, and when we'd run into each other I would give him the evil eyes 👀 and he would just laugh and say it was Eric's idea. Joshua Hartsfield was not only an amazing tattoo artist and incredibly talented but was one of the most positive to be around. During the four times I had full day sessions with him he was always spreading positivity and incredibly open and fun to talk to. During that time he worked for Iconic Tattoo and later moved over to Knucklehead Tattoo in Glendale where I was truly inspired by his drive to expand his tattoo abilities. He was getting better and better. He strived for greatness in his work and you could see it each time there was a new client. I'm truly going to miss you Joshua Hartsfield. As your client and as your friend. Rest in peace and thank you for all the laughs and your incredible work.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jöshüa Hartsfield.
Jöshüa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist. 
I’m a product of my environment. I grew up on 56th and Glendale. I ran with gangs from an early (16) start. Was sent to prison on multiple occasions, all before I was old enough to buy a beer. I’ve been stabbed and forced to move out of state with distant relatives. I became a Journeyman Plumber and when the market fell in 2008, work in the construction became slim which eventually fell to none. I moved back to Phoenix when offered a job as a Tattoo Artist.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work? 
I’m a professional Tattoo Artist. Since I’ve had a memory, there’s always been a box of crayons lying around. I love to tattoo because if allows me to channel my artistic energy into permanent works of art the others get to enjoy for the rest of their lives. My message of inspiration is to have Patience! Don’t expect to see what you’re looking for in two hours. My artwork is more than the subject matter. The art of Tattooing, is what I Specialize in.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about? 
Financial struggles never put a damper on my artistic focus. If anything, I grew my focus Harder on what I was doing Artistically, which in return, grabbed the attention of the public, which then brought financial relief.


It has been an honor to be a part of your life Josh. I never realized when I met this cute, rambunctious  little kid at the age of 6 at the Glendale American School after school program that we would connect and stay friends for a lifetime.  I appreciate the love and passion you had for life, your family,  your friends, music and just having a good time.  I love you my friend. You will be missed. 

Josh will always be remebered for his amazing work. I have had the privilege of being one of his victims 13 times and i dont regret a single time. From the first time he tattooed one of my family members, i knew he would be someone we could never forget. The last 10 years iv gotten to know josh very well, he took care of my families tattoo need and we took him in as part of the family. Ill never forget a session with him,i always knew to bring him a dr.pepper from circle k and if i brought him food to make sure it didnt have onions on it and that we would stop at least 5 times for him to sing. We always shared family stories and always joked around on breaks.  He made it an all around great experience and made sure to show me how excited he was to get new equipment for shows.  To see his talent grow from when he was new to tattooing, to see how astonishing his work had become near the very end. Getting to watch his family become successful, to see him and his beautiful wife, christi, build an empire together was so fulfilling to me. He was truely loved by all that were lucky enough to know him. He is going to be a truely misssed by so many. Rest easy brother.🤘

I am a friend of Joshua's grandmother Shirley, I would like to leave my condolences to the family and friends Shirley told me much about Joshua's tattoos that he was an artist and she was so proud of him and that he had won many awards,  I would like to send my prayers and love to Joshua's family. Good Morning, on behalf of the Huskey Family.  We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Kathy and family , We are very sorry to hear the passing of Josh this past week.
Even though it has been years , since our traveling days in the Rv’s we all had so much fun camping, going to Mexico , so many other adventures. Josh and Casey almost the same age had a lot of fun as Jessica, Tiffany, Jordan , Johnny and baby Janessa did . Moments don’t always last , but memories do . Loved the picture you posted of the boys with Smoky the Bear.
May God’s love be with you today and days to come.  Peace with Josh in Heaven 🙏.

Well Josh...I guess Eric didn't want to go without his Best Friend. I Know you guys didn't hang out much anymore because you both had jobs and families, But that never stopped the Love he had for you. You were the one who gave me my first tattoo and obviously it was one of your first ones too cuz man it's rough. Lol...but Eric was adamant about putting his name on my neck and so you did just that. (not without a fight tho) you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. When you see my Love could you please let him know that I love him so much. I Know you guys have a lot of catching up to do. FLY WITH THE ANGELS! Bye for now but never forever!!

Joshua. What can I say? Thank you so much for the art you did for me. The ribbon on Bonnie’s arm meant a lot to both of us. I wish we could known each other better and longer. I was always impressed with your strength and determination. Rip Joshua all is well here. 

My brother, Jöshüa has been through so much in his life. I could not be more proud of the man he had become. His Uncles; Steve & Mike played a huge part in his success. They also brought him closer to our dad! Without that, I would not have gotten to meet my brother. That being said, the first time I met him we were all at the lake on 4th of July. Having a great time with our amazing family. I had jumped into the water and he pulled me up out of the water, at that moment he realized that I was his “baby sister”. I will never forget this moment. The smile on his face was the best. Watching him turn his life around made me strive to be like him and never give up! I love you brother. Forever! Wrap your wings around us and protect  us!❤️

My favorite thing about Joshua was how he always lit up the room and was so passionate about his people. The first time I met Joshua I was having my eyebrows done and was mid tattoo and he came over to not only check on me but to also tell me how good it looked. The last time I saw him was just a couple weeks ago at a touch up and he asked me how I liked them. I said I did and he smiled that big smile and told me he loved them eyebrows! This man hyped his love up at every chance he could. I envy that and I know he was absolutely one of the good ones. He will be incredibly missed but we will always feel that light shining! 

I always had a pet name for JOSHUA, I always called him my  gangster grandson, and his response was no grandma I’m your rock star grandson, that was our thing we loved each other and it was my honor and privilege to be his grandmother rest in peace my Rock Star grandson.

Right after winning his first  “Best of Day” award 🥇 

Being able to be part of Joshua’s last accomplishments was an honor. My husband and I spent the weekend at the Tucson Tattoo Expo to support his amazing talent. Seeing him beam with pride when award after award was being given to him was amazing! His pride was definitely, earning that best of show award for the Spider Man he did on my hubby. It was that one award he was craving that he didn’t have in his collection of trophies.  

The next day, when he swept the entire large color category, you could just feel his excitement beaming! He definitely got his name out there at that expo, he kicked ass!And As usual, he was Jamming his Motley Crue and doing his ink without a care in the world each day.  He played his music So much, that when he left his booth I had people yelling at  me to turn off his Motley Crue 😄 When he came back he asked what happened to the music? When I let him know, he laughed and went to turn it back up 😄 I loved his “I do what I want and I don’t care” attitude. 

Joshua will be heavily missed by so many, he was talented beyond measure, kind, caring, and just amazing. I remember when I got my first tattoo from him. I was used to my other artist who would tap me out at 2 1/2 hours each time- even though I sat just fine. About three and a half hours into my ink with Joshua, I wanted to tap out. I remember being in tears during a break and telling my husband I can’t finish the tattoo that day.  I am a wussy with ink 😅 Josh talked me though it, introduced me to that amazing Bactine spray,  and kept me going so he could finish the next 3 1/2 hours.  Not once was he rude to me.

It was well worth the anxiety and pain. After that session, I found how how strong I really can be, and how amazing Joshua was as a caring artist. I’ve learned so much from him about a variety of topics, and will miss his little rants about stuff, and how excited he was to have us try his Disneyland treats he hand made.  

He was definitely one of a kind. 💗
