She was born Vivian Joyce Spurling on November 30, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Charles and Nora Spurling.
Joyce married Frank Arce Mendoza on February 14, 2001. He was a doting husband and took care of her as her health failed.
Joyce was very accomplished and she left this thought. “Education has always been important in my life. Involvement in PTOs, PTAs, Seminars, Gifted Steering Committees at ASU, letters to Senators, Governors, et al have given me impetus to use my talents and desire to mentor and give to others who have driven and desire to learn. Letters from Barry Goldwater and Bill Clinton have commended me for my work concerning getting children with disabilities into Public Schools and getting their individual special needs met. My many letters, personal contact, book and Internet research has helped the installation of fire alarms, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire drills and sprinkling systems in nursing homes, particularly the Hacienda Incorporated sites. Illegal Immigration has become a problem in the USA. It messes up the economy, Social Security, brings foreign diseases, drives up the crime rate and traffic accidents, cheats the Medicare system and ties up deserving people from ever paying off loans and other needed payments. It gives criminals license to break almost any law and get away with it. Those times will soon be over as more and more people are brave enough to support what is right.”
Joyce is survived by Frank, five children Bob Homuth, Heather Martin, Thomas Homuth, Gabriel Mendoza & Michele Maldonado, two sisters Judith & Charlene, 12 grandchildren Luke, Holly, Skyler, Gabriel, Jr., Amber, Michael, Joseph, Gabriella, Joseph, AnnaMaria, Randy & Michael and eight great-grandchildren Josh, Kayben, Jullisa, Jaydon, Isabella, Lincoln, Alice & Andromeda.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by two daughters Alice & Latisya, a sister Geri and a brother Jimmy.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 8-9 AM at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale. Funeral services will begin at 9 AM; entombment will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
