Judith Arline Winkle, 72, of Glendale, Arizona, died unexpectedly at home Sunday, September 25, 2016 with her dog at her side. Judy was a great friend, a wonderful sister, a kind and caring aunt, and a unique, thoughtful human being.
Judy was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 12, 1944 to Amy Arline Thurman Winkle and Carl R. Winkle. She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri with her parents and younger twin sisters. Judy was a tomboy and free spirit with a wonderful imagination.
She graduated from Knox College with a B.A. in English Composition in 1966. Her years at Knox were full of friendship, intellectual growth, and good times spent with her sorority sisters at Phi Mu. Judy was a deep thinker, a brooder, and an avid reader. She later received a Master's degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University. She had a 20-year career at the Social Security Administration in Phoenix and was a counselor at Devereux Agency. She loved books and was finally able to realize her dream of opening a used book store, Judy's Books, in Glendale, Arizona from 2002-2006.
She is survived by her twin sisters, Sally Winkle and Susan Glasgow, brothers-in-law Rod Stackelberg and Clif Glasgow, nephew Emmet von Stackelberg, nieces Ginger and Kelly Glasgow, Ginger's husband Brandon Wahlen, great-nephew Ethan Glasgow Martinez, great-niece Cinnamon Arline Wahlen, and devoted dog Gonzo.
