

Leonard was born on January 2, 1922, in Glendale, Arizona, to James Milton and Martha Estella (Goode) Combs. He was the 5th of 7 children and graduated from the Glendale Union High School. He then worked at the family dairy until the dairy closed in the 1940’s. Leonard joined the Army Air Corp on December 23, 1941. He served for four years and was honorably discharged in 1945 when he returned to Glendale. After returning from the war he delivered milk for different dairies. He owned & operated a gas station. He also did home delivery of bread & pastries. He finally settled on Pest control, owning his own company for over 30 years. He referred to himself as the milk man, the gas man, the bread man and finally the bug man.
Leonard married Barbara Bradford and together they had two children, Sharon and Shirley. He married Katherine (Schaff) Schulz on April 25, 1997, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sun City West Arizona. They split their time between Bismarck, North Dakota and Arizona. Leonard is survived by his wife, Katherine of Bismarck, ND; his daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Morrison and Shirley Morgan of South Carolina; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; his parents; two sisters; Bonnie Kerns and Ethel Murray; and four brothers, Jim, Joseph “Jay”, Willis and Bob.
He was a devoted & beloved Husband, Father and Grandpa.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 at Chapel of the Chimes 7924 N 59th Glendale, AZ from 9am-10am. Funeral Services will be at 10am followed by the graveside service at West Resthaven Park Cemetery.
