Surrounded by family, Marcelino Marzan Flores Jr. passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the age of 72. Born in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on December 28, 1952, he was the third of five sons by Marcelino Sr. and Remigia Flores.
Affectionately also known as “Marc,” “Marcie,” and “Junior,” Marcelino emigrated to the United States with his family in 1961 at the age of 9, and settled in Delano, California. He graduated from Delano Joint Union High School in 1971. He then pursued an Electrical Engineering degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1978. After graduation, he was immediately hired by Rockwell International as an electrical instrumentation and control engineer. In 1979, he worked as a test/design engineer on the Galileo-Jupiter Orbiter Space Probe at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Marcelino relocated to Phoenix in 1985, where he continued to demonstrate sharp technical skills and an unwavering dedication to precision while serving as a Licensed Professional Electrical/Control Systems Engineer (P.E. CSE/EE) over the next couple of decades. He was the principal/supervising instrumentation and controls engineer on various projects at numerous water and wastewater treatment plants within the City of Phoenix and other municipalities throughout and outside Arizona. He was also a member of the Central Arizona chapter of the Instrument Society of America, serving as secretary from 1997 to 2001. In March 2004, he co-founded EIC Engineers, LLC, an electrical instrumental and control systems engineering consulting firm, before retiring in December 2007.
Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Marcelino was an enthusiastic foodie who especially loved grilling a good steak. He was also a traveler and fisherman whenever possible, immensely enjoying the ocean, walking or fishing off the pier, and adventuring on deep-sea fishing excursions. A horse racing fan, he would often watch races in person at Santa Anita and Turf Paradise in Phoenix. He was an avid trader with investments and stocks and constantly tested his skills in spider solitaire. Finally, he complimented his generally quiet demeanor with a wry and playful sense of humor.
A devoted husband and father, Marcelino is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Esper; son Marshall and daughter Megan; and brothers Benjamin, Philip, Edwin, and David, all residing in California. He was preceded in death by his parents.
