A Legacy of Love
Maria was born in Chihuahua Mexico to Adolfo Gurani and Sofia Atayde. She was the oldest of five children with two sisters and two brothers. She grew up in Mexico City, a place she knew in and out from her days of ditching school as a young girl. At this time, she also discovered her love for God and the Catholic Church, a passion she carried and shared throughout her life.
Maria had a large family, 9 children, 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren to be exact but in reality, she treated everyone like family. She loved to welcome people into her home and her heart. She was an excellent cook and will forever hold the tile of “The Queen of Rice”.
After her family, well maybe not immediately after, Maria loved watching the Price Is Right. Her family knew not to call her between 9-10am. She actually became quite the game show junkie in her later years, especially after she discovered the Game Show Network.
Her many saying are something else we will all always remember. She had so many of them like “No hay amor sin interes” and the classic “Para pendejo no se estudia”. Along with these sayings she had a great sense of humor. She loved to joke around and laugh and make people laugh, which brings us to that special smile of hers which never seemed to leave her face.
It’s hard to summarize Maria’s life in a few short paragraphs. She has left her family, friends and loved ones with a great legacy of love and friendship that will live on forever.
P.S. Thank you all for your messages of love and support. I would like to also welcome anyone who would like to share a special memory they have of my mom.
