Marjorie Y. Hammer

In 1945, her father returned from his WWII deployment in Europe back to their Hutchinson home. In 1950, the family of 3 moved to Garden City, Kansas where her parents started the Merle Dunn Typewriter Company. The business flourished for over 13 years and in 1964, they sold the business and moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

In 1962, Margie graduated from high school, and shortly after, moved to Tucson, Arizona. Tucson is where she met and later married her military husband of 22 years, and in 1965, gave birth to their only child, Andrea Beth. Margie was a devoted wife and mother, maintaining & organizing the household, and managing all of the military moves. This helped to smoothly transition this new family of 3 to U.S. Air Force Bases in Nebraska, Hawaii, Japan, Georgia, Arizona & Texas. Margie was always ready to help as well with all of Andrea's school events, projects, Brownies, tap, ballet, soccer, Girl Scouts, softball, high school choir, tennis lessons & matches. This devoted mom was always there to support her daughter & her family always came first.

Margie was also an accomplished seamstress, making everything from her daughters baby, toddler & school clothes, choir & banquet outfits, prom dress, tennis outfits, canopy bed sets, curtains, reupholstered sofas, wedding dress & veil, to her grandsons very first Halloween costumes. Top designers had nothing on her, making her daughter very proud of her mom, who handled triumphs and difficulties with humor, grace, dignity & style.

In 1986, Marjorie started her new life in Phoenix, Arizona. Margie's career was in the insurance industry working for Travelers, Nationwide and Republic in the private sector. Her true career enjoyment was her 12 years working for the State of Arizona, retiring as a senior claims adjuster.

When her daughter gave birth to Steven Andrew (1991) and Michael Joseph (1993), Margie became the most devoted grandmother ever and would send care packages & cards to the little guys and visit them in Utah every chance she could. Steven and Michael were her pride and joy. Her devotion to them as a grandmother is unmatched.

In 1999, her daughter and both grandsons moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Margie loved, cared for and helped raise the boys, doing everything she could to help them become the wonderful young men they are today. Margie's love, care and loyalty also extended to Lauren and Rayden, Michael's wife and son, making Margie a great-grandmother.

Margie lived at home with her daughter and grandson Steven until complications from covid, that she had the fall of 2020, caused her illness to progress. After a short stay in the hospital, she was then moved to Hospice of the Valley Thunderbird Home, where she passed away Sunday June 20, 2021.

Margie was a loving and devoted daughter, granddaughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, niece, cousin, friend, coworker, neighbor and life-long Democrat, always working and contributing to make the world a better place.

Margie is survived by her daughter Andrea Hammer, grandson Steven Fuchs, grandson Michael Fuchs, granddaughter-in-law Lauren Fuchs, great-grandson Rayden John and honorary grandson Jade Young.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice of the Valley Thunderbird Home, Glendale, Arizona. In acquiescence of Marjorie's instructions, there will be no funeral service. Memorials to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street Phoenix, Arizona 85014, are suggested in lieu of floral tributes.
