Michael David Russell

Michael David Russell, beloved son, brother, friend and a proud United States Army Veteran, unexpectedly passed away on July 4, 2017 due to a sudden blood clot to the heart. He was fondly known as Mickey to all his friends.

Mickey was born on March 13, 1988 in New Haven, Connecticut and moved to Arizona in August 1996. Mickey was passionate from childhood and on into adulthood about serving our country. He spent several months getting into shape in order to make his dream come true and in September 2007 enlisted in the United States Army. Mickey served overseas in Iraq as a M1A1 Armor Crewman (Driver) and received an Honorable Discharge from the in Army in November 2011.

Education was important to Mickey. He studied history and criminal Justice and completed his Bachelor’s Degree while working full time as a Security Officer with Maricopa County Community Colleges. His lifelong dream was to become a Police Officer. In fact, Mickey had successfully completed the hiring process with Scottsdale Police Department and was awaiting his start date.

Mickey touched many lives in his short 29 years. His friends and family describe him as down to earth, loving, caring, giving, loyal and truly a genuine person. He was always quick to help others, especially people he cared for.

Mickey is survived by his Mother: Stephanie, Brother: Roberto, Sister: Raquel, Step-grandfather: Cory, Uncle: Duke, Girlfriend: Ashley and many relatives and loving friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert F. Russell and Patricia Howe Cuthberton, and his Uncle: Craig Russell.

While grief may be present now, Mickey would want us all to know he loved us and did his best he to help as many people as he could in life. Serving was Mickey’s ultimate goal and he leaves behind a legacy of helping others.

Services for Mickey will be held on July 14, 2017 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary 7924 N. 59th Ave. Glendale, Arizona 85301 at 10:00 am.

The committal Service will take place at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024 on Wednesday July 19, 2017. The Procession will begin at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary at 8:00am escorted by the Patriot Riders.
