Rufus Galvan Duncan

He passed away at the Chandler Regional Hospital. He was born in Moore, Texas on February 6, 1946 to Augustine and Hermenia Duncan and was the 7th out of 15 children. Rufus married Elizabeth Harwood on September 26, 1964 in Lansing, Michigan, together they raised Lisa Marie, Michael, and Douglas Duncan. Lisa died in a tragic accident in 1979 at the age of 13. This loss bound the family together as strong and faithful throughout the rest of his life. His faith in the Lord led him to be an honest and caring man of integrity.

Rufus is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Duncan, a special Education teacher; his sons, Michael Rufus Duncan and Douglas Edward Duncan; his grandchildren Shane Hussey, Conner Duncan, Sr., Hunter Duncan, Chandler Duncan, Alyssa Duncan, Cristal Duncan, Ailani Duncan, and Michael Duncan; his great-grandchildren, Conner Michael Duncan, Jr. and Lisa Rainee Duncan; his brothers, Noe Duncan, David Duncan, and Samuel Duncan; his sisters, Mary Carson, Esther Garza, Adella Garza, Rebecca Hart, and Eva Lydia Young; his nephews, Samson Duncan, Samuel Duncan, Jr., Rodney Garza, Elliot Garza, Ray Garza, Jr., David Duncan, Jr., Keith Johnson, Peter Johnson, Noe Duncan, Jr., Ricky Duncan, Peter Duncan, Abram Duncan, Moses Gomez, Andy Gomez, Bernie Gomez, Larry Wallace, and Jerry Wallace; and nieces, Melanie Garza, Jaqcue Moore, Jamie Bradbury, Valerie Garza, Crystal Gerhold, Chrissy Duncan, Rachel Duncan, Barbara Duncan, and Eva Duncan.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 South 48th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. Viewing at 9:00 a.m. preceding services. There will be a light reception at the church following the services. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 West Thunderbird Road, Glendale, Arizona.

Thank you to all of our family and friends through these 53 years we have been soul mates. We grew up together and loved through life lessons. Now he can be at rest and free from the pain. Fly on the wings of a snow white dove!! Special thanks to our dear friend and “daughter”, Leanne Olivarez for always being there for us both.
