Susan Lynn Edwards, age 75, of Glendale, Arizona entered her eternal home with Jesus, in Heaven, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. She passed peacefully with family by her side after a long battle with Dementia. She was born in South Gate, California on December 15, 1948, to Bernard and Dorothy Gremmel. The day of her birth also happened to be her parents’ 13th wedding anniversary.
Susan is survived by her loving daughter Annie Oertel (Chad), granddaughter Rebecca Oertel, and several nieces and nephews.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Dorothy, son Darius Edwards (Donnita), grandson Nathen Edwards, and her two brothers Ray and Steven Gremmel.
Susan moved from the Westcoast in May of 1979 and would raise her children in Kansas City, KS. She was an active member of Victoria Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, working with the Missionettes scouting program, participating in the puppet ministry, and visiting shut ins. On occasion, she also cleaned the church buses to prepare them for their Sunday morning runs. She instilled a strong ethic for volunteering and hard work in her children’s lives.
Susan held various manufacturing jobs from cabinet making to soldering tiny circuits on boards that were placed in airplanes, but ultimately, she retired from Deluxe Corporation, as a check editor, in 2010. Shortly after retirement she relocated to Glendale, AZ to be closer to family. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter attending her dance recitals, school events, even joining her on a third-grade field trip to California. She also enjoyed babysitting her and hanging out with her after school. They loved playing board and card games together, telling each other jokes, and giggling.
Susan was an avid reader, especially when it came to science fiction and adventure novels. She was even a bit of a Trekkie. She loved watching Star Trek reruns and especially enjoyed the Next Generation series. Most importantly, she loved the Bible and would take her time studying it. It was not unusual for her to read multiple daily devotionals. She treasured the scriptures and everything she could glean from them.
Susan loved working with her hands. She enjoyed drawing and painting, crafting her own Christmas ornaments, creating earrings, and even painting designs on and finishing her own furniture. Her hand drawn pictures of horses, paisley designs, handmade ornaments, and painted furniture will be forever cherished.
Family and Friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Monday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Christ’s Church of the Valley Peoria Campus, 7007 W. Happy Valley Rd, Bldg. 400, Peoria, AZ 85383.
