Varla Jane Wright

She was born June 2, 1940 in Logan, Utah and was the first daughter of R. LaVar Owens and Bertha Alice Brush Owens. Varla lived in Logan, Utah until WWII made it necessary for her father to return to working on the family farm.

She attended elementary and High School in Delta, Utah. She graduated from Delta High School in 1958. Education was very important to Varla. She attend college at BYU and transferred to Utah State, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She taught school at Clearfield Elementary. She later earned a Master's degree from Northern Arizona University in Speech Pathology, and worked for Phoenix #1 School District as a Speech Language Pathologist.

Varla married Rodney Elwyn Wright in the Salt Lake Temple on August 25, 1960. They raised four children. During their married life, they resided in Logan, Ogden, Spanish Fork, and Willard, Utah; Battle Ground, Indiana; and Phoenix, Arizona where the family has lived since 1973.

Varla was an avid reader and had a sharp mind. She was the family genealogist and a talented seamstress. She sewed many items of clothing, home decor items, and wedding dresses. She was a dedicated member of her church and served for many years as a Family Search Missionary. Varla also served in her Wards and Stakes over the years in many callings. Her favorite was working in the Phoenix Temple from 2014 -2016.

Varla is survived by daughter Laura Horne (Kent) of Peoria, Arizona, sons Clayne Wright (Jennifer) of Mesa, Arizona, Bevan Wright of Lake Forest, California, Desmon Wright (Julia) of Flagstaff, Arizona, along with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Janeal Young (David) of Delta, Utah and Janet Jacobson (Jim) of Leander, Texas. Varla was preceded in death by her husband Rodney Elwyn Wright, her parents and her younger sister Gloria Morrison.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hospice of the Valley and Dignity Mortuary for their kind, considerate care of Varla. There will be no public viewing. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday October 25, 2021 at the Glendale Arizona Stake Center located at 8602 N 31st Ave, Phoenix, Arizona. Burial will be at the West Resthaven Cemetery in Glendale, Arizona.
