Vergena (Gena) Ruth Ernst Metcalf Weigle.
Mom was loved by many and had a wonderful life.
She was born in Smithville, Ohio and had 1 brother and 2 sisters. She married Charles Metcalf in 1950, then moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1953. Her parents and sisters moved to Phoenix in 1956, and her brother and his family followed later. All of Mom's family now lived in Arizona and we spent many holidays together, even frequent picnics to various locations throughout the state. As all of the families grew, the locations of the time spent together moved. We spent the early years gathering at Grammie and Gramp's house, then onto our parent's home, then Linda's, then of course Debbie's. One of our favorite picnic areas was Encanto Park, riding the roller coaster and hand-pedal cars. We also enjoyed going to Thunderbird Park and playing softball. And let's not forget our forays into any other park that Uncle Billy could find tucked away in outlying valley areas. Memories galore of our wonderful family gatherings when the cousins were younger.
Mom married Dick Weigle in 1976. They combined 2 families that had been friends during our childhoods. Mom and Dick lived in Phoenix with a short time in Camp Verde. They moved frequently, each time Mom would fix the houses up beautiful. She had a wonderful knack for decorating and Dick was able to make everything workable.
After Dick's passing, Mom moved to Prescott for a few years, then back to Sun City West, where she resided until her passing. She had a very special friend in Graham Harris. He adapted well to our family and made her last few years special. We are grateful to Graham for the time and patience he showed our Mom.
Mom would work as a volunteer at a local hospital whenever she could. She enjoyed doing this and often times mentioned how she wished that she could have done more. Mom enjoyed helping others decorate their homes, plan parties, shopping and just spending time with family. She never really enjoyed being known as a "Grandma" but she did what she could. She could usually be found at any of the family functions, especially those involving Debbie's family in the later years. She was very proud of all of her grandchildren, She has several great-grandchildren but did not have an opportunity to get to know them well.
Mom will be missed, but we all know that she is now "at peace" and is no longer in turmoil. She will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
We love you Mom, Grandma, Gena, Aunt Gena!
