Claudia was a beautiful, smart, strong, caring, loving, faithful woman, who chose a life of service. She worked at Mujeres Latinas en Acción, advocating for women who were survivors of domestic violence. At the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Claudia worked with victims of violent crime, guiding them through the criminal justice system. She advocated for women at the National Immigrant Justice Center by assisting those who were being trafficked. Claudia also worked at The Day School for at risk youth, who had behavioral and learning issues.
It's no surprise that after all she did in her life, she decided to become a massage therapist. She worked with so many people who experienced physical and emotional trauma, and Claudia found a way to continue helping people, to physically heal.
Anyone who truly knew Claudia, knew she was a warrior! She was a warrior who spoke words of encouragement, lifting people up who were hurting. She had a way of bringing out the bravery in people who felt weak, and the hope in those who lost faith, even when going through her own trials and tribulations. Claudia never lost faith.
Claudia loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved to dance. Bachata and merengue were two of her favorite dances. If you went out with her, you had better be prepared to dance the night away. She loved food and going out to restaurants and trying different cuisines, combining that with her love of the theatre was sure to bring the biggest smile on her face. She loved traveling and experiencing everything this life had to offer.
She was the most amazing friend, who liked hanging out and sharing experiences. Even when she was sick, she offered to help those in need. Claudia has brought so many of her friends together. That is the gift she leaves. The gift of shared friendship, memories that will bring smiles, laughter, and tears to those she loved and who loved her right back.
Of all the things Claudia accomplished in her lifetime, the one she was most proud of was becoming a mother. She was a single mother to the most beautiful son, Nathan. He was truly the love of her life. Everything she did, she did for Nathan.
She made sure to give him the best she could. She loved reading to him when he was young. They shared a love of movies and food. She pushed him to be the best person he could be. Claudia was so proud when Nathan was accepted to and graduated from the Illinois Math and Science Academy, which was followed by him being accepted to and graduating from the University of San Diego. She raised a good man, who is loved and will continue to be loved by those with whom she shared his accomplishments.
The gift Claudia has given us all, is the gift of love, friendship, and family. We will forever be changed because of the beautiful person she was and for bringing us into her family. As Claudia would say,
“God is Good.”
