John is survived by their wife, Ronnie Sweeney nee McGarry; their son Gerard Sweeney (Susan Williams Sweeney); their son John Sweeney (Ann Anderson Sweeney); and their daughter Veronica Sweeney; their granddaughter Mia Sweeney, their grandson Aidan Sweeney and their granddaughter Lucy James Sweeney.

A Memorial Mass for John will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:45 AM at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 409 E. 241st Street, Bronx, New York 10470. Following the Memorial Mass will be a reception from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Rory Dolan's, 890 McLean Avenue, Yon, New York 10704.
