Laurel Turnbull

Laurel Dale Turnbull was born at home in Glendale, NY on October 23, 1949, to William and Dorothy, and was a lifelong resident. She was employed as a banker on Madison Avenue for several years before beginning her career with the United States Postal Service.

An avid NY Mets fan through the ups and downs, her favorite player was "The Kid," Gary Carter. Laurel was a caring and wonderful person who would do anything for anybody. She was a motherly figure to her devoted nieces and nephews, and especially her Godson, her "Boopy Doll," Richie.

She was a talented guitar player and played with many people throughout her life. She even dabbled in songwriting, having written a song for her niece and nephew's wedding ("Joseph the Third," as she would call him). She grew up with many cousins and shared countless memories with them. Laurel never forgot her New York roots, and no matter how much we tried to persuade her, she would never leave her hometown.

Laurel met her best friend, "Annie," and her sister Kathy, with whom she lived for many years. They shared many good times together, including Mets games, plays, dinners, movies, etc.

Laurel is predeceased by her father William, her mother Dorothy, her sister Gail and her loving companion Edward Kearney, her great-niece Amanda, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including her beloved Godmother, Viola Donovan.

She is survived by her loving niece and nephews: Richard Bazzanella (her Godson), Thomas Bazzanella (Jennifer), and Laurie Bazzanella; several cousins, including Thomas Donovan (Lisa) and James Donovan (Phyllis), who were more like brothers; her devoted best friend Anna Sessa; her great-nephews and nieces, Dillon, Jennifer, Logan, Presley, Adriane, Jack, and Quinn, many friends, and her little dog, Kringle.

She will be missed tremendously, as we always thought she was invincible. We will love her and remember her forever.

Visitation will be held at Werst & LaBella Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave, Glendale, NY 11385, US, on April 22, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at All Souls Chapel and Crematory, 72-02 Astoria Blvd S, New York, NY 11370, US, on April 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
