We are saddened by the passing of our beloved Opa, Richard Hoffman, on March 20, 2026 at the age of 88 years old. He was a good man who was loved and respected by all. He was a wonderful husband for 63 years to Gerda. A loving father to Laura and Tina. A caring father-in-law to Robert and Patrick. A proud grandfather to Rachel, Jake, Paul and Katie, and great-grandfather to Luke Richard. He was a devoted brother to Erich, and together they overcame many challenges growing up in Feketitsch, Yugoslavia.
In 1957, at the age of 19, he came to the United States and settled in the German neighborhood of Ridgewood, Queens, where he met many lifelong friends. He built a beautiful life for himself and for his family there. He was a hard worker who was well respected by his co-workers at the New York Envelope, where he retired after 34 years.
Richard was surrounded by his family and knew he was loved. His kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends will never be forgotten. He will be forever missed by all.
His memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations in Richard’s name at the Tunnels to Towers Foundation and National Kidney Foundation.
