
She died June 25, 2011 while hiking in the Colorado Rockies. She loved to ski in winter and hike in summer.
Mary moved with her family to Oberlin, Louisiana in 1963 where she grew up graduating high school in 1979; after a few years in the civilian world, she and sister Elaine, joined the U.S. Army. After 3 years active duty, Mary joined the Army Reserves retiring in 2006. During her time in the Army Reserves she was involved in training troops; with her active duty completed Mary moved to the Denver area, then briefly to California, before moving back to the Littleton area; she moved to Golden in 1998. At the time of her death Mary working for AECom; she previously worked for USR Corp and Lockheed-Martin; Mary had many interests to occupy her off-work hours including yoga, biking, running, working in her garden and yard, visiting with her neighbors, and getting to know herself spiritually. She married the love of her life, Tom Burkhardt, Oct. 1, 2005 and though the marriage ended later, they enjoyed several years of happiness together. Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents, James B. and Opal H. Bowles and Forbes L. and Hertha N. Baker; her father, Robert B. Bowles, a nephew, Christopher Noah, uncles James F.(Buck) Bowles and Forbes D. Baker.
She is survived by her mother, Helen S. Bowles, brothers, Robert M. Bowles and John F. Bowles; sisters, Susan Slifer (Cliff Moore), Patricia (Mike) Lane, Margie (Alvin) Klein, and Elaine (Steven) Beals; nieces and nephews, Karcy A. Bowles, Shannon (Val) Klein, Garrett (Amanda) Klein, Kelly Klein, Mikel (Jeremy) Foley, Dani Klein, and Wyatte Bowles; aunts, Evolyn Melville and Virginia Bowles and many cousins from various parts of the country.
