

A retired carpenter for Boudinot Construction, he died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in Baton Rouge. He was 92, a resident and native of Whitehall, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Whitehall, on Monday, Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jason Palermo. Interment in Whitehall Community Cemtery. Survived by his wife, Lucille Delatte Fontenot, Whitehall; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melva Berthelot, French Settlement, and Leverne and Berlin Aydell, Prairieville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rayborn and Diana Cambre Fontenot, Port Vincent, and Lemoine Fontenot, Whitehall; sister, Aurelia Fontenot, Whitehall; ten grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Victoria Rousseau Fontenot; a son and daughter-in-law, Collins Albert and Kathy Albie Fontenot; a sister, Celestine Penalber; six brothers, Sosten, Murphy, Emile, Elmo, Felician and Kosueth Fontenot; and tow grandson, Christopher Watts and Troy Altazin. Pallbearers will be Rayborn and Lemoine Fontenot, Berlin Aydell, Darren and Dain Fontenot, Ron Melancon, and Kenny Whittington. He was a member of Gautreau Williams American Legion Post 81 in Gonzales.
