

A loving, caring and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he passed away to be with his heavenly father Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 8:10 p.m. at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was better known to his classmates as "Boots" Wall at St. Amant High School from which he graduated in 1942. Alva was born to Effie Mae Michael and John Henderson Wall on June 4, 1923, in Lake. Alva grew up in the area of Lake with his mother and father on a farm. Alva went into the Army in 1943 to serve his country. He served in the European Theater for 26 months, going in on D-Day Plus-1 (June 7, 1944) at the beachhead of Normandy. Alva served as commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3693 as well as many other offices from 1965 to 009. He was also a member of the DAV Chapter 45 and served as a commander and also held many offices. Alva and his father were owners of Wall's Feed and Seed Store in Gonzales from 1945 to 1952. Alva was a business owner of S&W Camperland, assistant manager for Lamar Lane Chevrolet, employed by Nutrena Mills and Rex Milling Co. Alva was very interested in politics and helping other people in need. Alva met his sweetheart, Lindy Hope Lear, at the Strawberry Festival in April 1947 and they were married on Aug. 30, 1947. They had four children, Alva John Jr., Don Allen, Ricky Lane and Diauna Hope. Alva and Lindy were married for 63 years. He is survived by his wife, Lindy H. Lear Wall; sons, Alva Jr. and wife Emily, Don and Ricky Wall; a daughter, Diauna and husband Lee Foltz; eight grandchildren, Angela Breaux and husband Bart, Alicia Wild and husband John, David Wall and wife Stacey, Erica Wall, Aimee Sasser and husband Adam, Tasha Hebert and husband Trey, Haylee Foltz and Colbie Foltz; and nine great-grandchildren, Bradlee Wall, Adam Wall, Jessie Wall, John Wild III, Landon Wild, Parker Wall, Blaise Breaux, Brianna Breaux and Dylynn Hebert. He was preceded in death by his mother, Effie Michael Wall; father, John Henderson Wall; and a sister that died at birth. Pallbearers will be David Wall, Jessie Wall, Adam Sasser, Bart Breaux, John Wild III and Al Graham. There will be a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Thursday, April 7, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, La. 30, Gonzales, Friday, April 8, from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by Bishop Derrick Masten.
