Audrey LaBiche Kern passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on December 4, 2021 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry John Kern, her son Charles David Kern as well as her parents and two sisters. She leaves behind her children; Charlotte Kern Petit (Lionel) and Daniel Kern (Patti), her grandchildren; Tommy Besselman Jr. (Kate), David Besselman (Ashley), Travis Besselman (Amie), Raleigh Kern, Taylor Kern (Nicole) and Sydney Kern and her great grandchildren; Thomas III, Izzy, Caleb, Bri, Audrey, Jude and Hayes Besselman and Shepard Kern. Audrey was born along Bayou Lafouche in Napoleonville, LA almost a century ago. In her lifetime she witnessed travel from a mule and a cart taking her to school to seeing tourists in space! She married Harry Kern when he returned from serving his country in WWII. They made their home in Destrehan where St. Charles Borromeo church and school were focal points of her life. Her work as a postal clerk kept her connected with all of her friends and neighbors in the community. From communicating via letters and telephone to navigating text messaging and Facebook with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren , Audrey/Gram/Maw Maw never missed a minute of the lives of those she loved. Family meals were filled with great food, tons of laughter and wicked card games won mostly by Maw Maw. She often organized "clean out the garden Saturdays" as an excuse to cook a meal and create a family gathering. She passed this love of flower gardening to her children and grandchildren. A recent moment of great pride for Audrey was one of Travis' famous crawfish boils, surrounded by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and holding her youngest, Shep. Her love for her family extended to her many nieces and nephews who often spent afternoons visiting with her. Audrey cherished those moments. She will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11AM, a visitation will begin at 9:30AM. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that prayers and small acts of kindness be offered in the memory of Mrs. Audrey to keep her loving and generous spirit alive. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oursofh.com for the Kern family.
