It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda J. Melancon, 84. She deported this life February 19, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She was born on October 20, 1941, in Baton Rouge, La. Brenda was the beloved daughter of the late Hewitt and Gladys Garon.
Brenda was an integral part of the community. She was a published author, a long-time Mayor of Sorrento, La. and a well-known historian. She enthusiastically dove into her genealogy research. She took great pride in her small town, which inspired her to author the book “The History of Sorrento.” She spent so much time and money giving back to her own community. But if you had asked her, her greatest accomplishment was being a mother and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband of 49 years, Victor Melancon; son, Michael Melancon; and daughter Vicki Melancon Gauthreaux.
Brenda is survived by her sister Linda Babin of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Sheryl Melancon Hammack of Pooler, Ga.; 8 grandchildren; Ashton Lessard Barker (Patrick), Hayden Melancon (Deanna), Megan Wilson Snyder (Hunter), Mikah Melancon (Tyler), Christopher Hammack, Brenden Melancon (Grace), Landon Loyd, and Tristen Loyd. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation services will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, located at 13533 Airline Hwy, Gonzales, Louisiana, 70737. The first visitation is scheduled for February 25, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
