David William Thornhill, 78, passed away at his home on March 8, 2022. David was born August 10, 1943 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he graduated from Istrouma High School in May 1961. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his Air Force service time, he lived in east Texas before moving back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He retired from BREC as the Construction Superintendent where he used his talents for building for almost 30 years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he loved his family and enjoyed cooking for them and taking family vacations. He was a member of Ascension Baptist Church where he again used his talents for building and maintenance. He loved mowing the grounds of the church. He made so many friends and they returned that love over the last 3 years by keeping him company as he battled his disease. David is preceded in death by his parents, Marion Elisha Thornhill and Sara Bates Thornhill; his brother, Marion Elisha Thornhill, Jr.; sister, Patricia Thornhill Hubbs; and his late wife, Bernice Copeland Thornhill. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Sue McClure Thornhill; his son, David Lee Thornhill (Penny); his daughters, Sonia Thornhill Rock (Ralph), and Leigh Ann Thornhill Graham (Greg); grandchildren, Sheena Berthelot (Ryan), SSG David O. Thornhill, US Army, Stephen Thornhill (Kristin), Joshua Ramirez (Maggi), Brittin Wicker (Ryan), Logan Leake (Coleman) and Blake Thornhill; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Osburn Thornhill (Sandra); and a niece. Visitation will be held at Ascension Baptist Church in Gonzales, LA, on Friday, March 11th, 5pm-8pm.Visitation will resume on Saturday, March 12th from 9am-10am, with service immediately following. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be David L. Thornhill, SSG David O. Thornhill, US Army, Joshua Ramirez, Blake Thornhill, Greg Graham, and Ralph Rock. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Thornhill and Mike Ellis. Donations may be made in David’s memory to Ascension Baptist Church, Gideon’s International, or Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
