

A lifelong resident of Gonzales, Donnie D. Mire passed away peacefully of natural causes Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gatis Eve Templet Mire; sons, Van Mire and wife Darlene, Curtis Mire; daughters, Tammy Liotto and fiancé Ralph Rebowe, Linda Travis and husband Alton; brother, Harold Mire; grandchildren, Jeremy Mire and wife Danielle, Leighton Carbo and wife Nicole, Wesley Carbo, Kary Millet and wife Jessica, Vincent Liotto and wife Lindsey, Isaac Liotto, Shawn Liotto, Joel Mire, Jessie Weber and Husband Chris, Erin Mire, Alexandra Mire, Sutton Travis and wife Stephanie, Cullyn Travis; great-grandchildren, Aubree Millet, Katelyn and Abigail Weber, Claire Carbo, Harrison Holland, Sadie, Sage and Slade Travis; and his God-Children, Maria Mire Daigle, Janice Mire Carter, Keith Martine, and Shawn Haydel. He is preceded in death by his father, Athos Mire; mother, Blanche Braud Mire; and brother, Leroy Mire. Donnie was trumpet leader in the Gonzales High School Band and attended LSU on a band scholarship. He was employed by Ormet for 17 years before becoming self-employed in the trucking business. While at Ormet, Donnie was the chairman for March of Dimes. He was a member of the Ascension Parish Sheriff Flotilla, the Gonzales Country Club, the Gonzales Boat Club, and the Gonzales Committee for Cultural Affairs. Donnie was Jambalaya Champion in 1970 and 1979, cooking for the San Francisco 49ers and for President Jimmy Carter on the White House Lawn. He was featured as Jambalaya Champion in a 1971 National Geographic Society Publication entitled Mighty Mississippi. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church Monday, August 4, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Eric Gyan, celebrant. Interment will be in Cornerview Cemetery in Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Mire, Leighton Carbo, Vincent Liotto, Wesley Carbo, Isaac Liotto, Shawn Liotto, and Kary Millet. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Mire, Erin Mire, Jessie Weber, Alexandra Mire, Danielle Mire, Nicole Carbo, Lindsey Liotto, and Jessica Millet. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Baton Rouge – Butterfly Wing, and to Barbara Breaux, Lois Black, and Dr. Shawn Hall.
