Dorothy G. Powers

A native of French Settlement and resident of Prairieville, she passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the age of 93. She was a parishioner at St. Mark Catholic Church in Gonzales, a member of the Rosary Society, a Eucharistic minister, and was a previous member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church Charismatic Prayer Group. She is survived by daughters, Doris Kelley, Gwen Rabalais and husband Mark, Janet Guitreau and husband Marvin, and Sue Gerald and husband David; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene J. Powers Sr.; sons, James Powers and Eugene Powers Jr.; parents, Bella Keller and Clatuce Guitreau; son-in-law, H.J. Kelley; brother, Elwood P. Guitreau; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Powers. There will be a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Thursday, July 21, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, on Friday, July 22, from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 p.m. Entombment will be in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Brian Powers, Eric Kelley, Todd Rabalais, Chad Gerald, Damien Powers, and Marvin Guitreau Jr. The family would like to give a special thanks to the ICU staff at Ochsner Medical Center and The Carpenter House, St. Joseph Hospice, for their loving care and compassion.
