Eliazar Salinas, Jr., better known to many as Deacon J.R., went to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 6, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was a man that loved his family and church community. He graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1969 where he met the love of his life. He retired as a millwright from Marathon Oil Company where he worked for 28 years. He also recently retired from The Baton Rouge Area Catholic Diocese as a deacon at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, LA. In the time he was retired, his favorite hobbies were fishing with his grandson, Connor, and serving in the food pantry at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Bernardina “Barnie” Lopez Salinas along with his two daughters, Catherine “Cathy” Salinas Boudreaux (Wade), and Julie Ann Salinas Boudreaux (Steve). He is also survived by three sisters and a brother, Diana Hollingsworth (Danny), Zelda Salinas, Melba Monroe (Murphy) and Genaro “Jerry” Salinas (Letha). He is also survived by three grandchildren, Connor Salinas (Alexis), Ella Boudreaux and Hayden Boudreaux, and one great granddaughter, Carmen. He is preceded in death by his father, Eliazar Salinas, Sr. and his mother, Ruby Rivera Salinas. Pallbearers are Connor Salinas, Steve Boudreaux, Wade Boudreaux, Genaro “Jerry” Salinas, Danny Hollingsworth, Lino Lopez, Jr., Omar Lopez, and Jose “Beto” Lopez. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Lopez, Felix Lopez, Chris Lopez, Jesus Lopez, and Jorge Lopez. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Holy Hour at 6:00 p.m. starting with recitation of the rosary followed by the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Visitation will resume on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, LA. from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Joe Vu, Fr. Joshua Johnson, and Deacon Michael Parker. The burial will follow at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center who recently cared for him.
