George Nelson Thomas Jr., age 72 of Livingston, La passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Nelson Jr. had a love for football, especially the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He also had a love for cooking. He got to travel the country when he drove tanker trucks. His most prized possession was his grandkids to which each and everyone he doted on. Nelson Jr. is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Vernell Stewart Thomas; his son, Joel Thomas; daughter, Jamie Herring (Travis); 5 grandchildren, Jory Thomas Jr, Joelie Thomas, London Herring, Mady Thomas, and Kenner Herring; and great granddaughter, Milla Lin Mundell; He also leaves behind his sister, Betty Marie Thomas; a brother, Stanley Thomas (Gwen), brothers-in-law, Ricky Stewart and Stevie Stewart; sisters-in-law, Linda Meyers (Ronnie), and Linnell Harrington (Todd) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Jory Nelson Thomas Sr., his parents, George Nelson Thomas Sr. and Mary Helen Taylor, sister, Flora Ann Thomas and brother, Frankie Ray Thomas and nephew, Nelson Hinson. Services to honor Nelson Jr’s life will be held on Tuesday, Oct 7, 2025, at Red Oak Baptist Church, 28760 Red Oak Rd Livingston, La 70754. Visiting will be from 9:30 am until the funeral service at 11 am. He will be laid to rest next to his son, Jory in Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Benjamin Thomas, Todd Harrington, Derrick Stewart, Kenner Herring, Rickey Stewart II, Ronnie Meyers Jr. Honorary pallbearers, Ronnie Meyers Sr and Ricky Stewart Sr. Nelson Jr’s friends and family will forever remember his story telling and his sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
