

Dr. Gerald A. Bello II (Jerry) MD, 52, Baton Rouge native and Gonzales resident, passed July 1 peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born May 12, 1971 in Mayville, North Dakota. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1989 with honors & was a National Merit Finalist, choir member, on the tennis team (competing in the State Championship) & achieved Eagle Scout. He studied Microbiology at LSU and attended LSU Med School in Shreveport, graduating with Honors with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1997. He was dedicated to medicine and pursued his passion for music having his own recording studio for many years. His declining health made medical practice difficult but he managed to continue up to his death, although he had to give up his studio. He practiced medicine at several locations in Baton Rouge and Lafayette. He is survived by his parents, Gerald & Dorothy (Loup) Bello; sister, Ginger (Bello) Andrews & brother-in-law Ed; beloved nephew & niece, Preston & Brooke Andrews; uncles, Richard Bello PhD & wife Liz, & Gary Bourque; aunts, Cynthia (Bello) Williams, Betty (Loup) McKenzie & husband Butch; cousins, Deacon Jim Bello III & wife Christina, Sherry (Bello) Roper & husband Chad, Holly (McKenzie) Perrier & husband Guy, Dawn (Birdsong) Jackson & husband Eric, Tammy (Louque) Williams, Frances Bello, and Christopher Wunstel. Preceded in death by grandparents, James & Frances (Zumo) Bello, Warren & Audrey (Basso) Loup; uncle, James Bello Jr & wife aunt Sue, aunt Maurene (Loup) Bourque. So many relatives and friends deserve special thanks for helping him through some very difficult times during his lengthy illness. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 Hwy 73 Prairieville, from 9:30am until service at 11:00am.
