
A retired captain for the Baton Rouge Fire Department with 38 years of service and a resident of Gonzales, he died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was 81, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Sylvester Minj. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Bourque, of Gonzales; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Ann Bourque Roberts and Russell Wayne Roberts, M.D., Shreveport; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Wayne Bourque and Angela D'Antoni Bourque, St. Amant; and three grandchildren, Kelly, Katy and Claire Roberts, all of Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Breville Bourque and Clothilde Parent Bourque; four sisters, Mattie Fairchild, Addie Sanchez, Edith Roth and Verla Chauvin; and four brothers, Matson, Mervin, Melvin and Benjamin Bourque. Pallbearers will be members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department. Special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice nurses Dawn and Joy and the staff of The Carpenter House.
