

James Terrell “Terry” Richey, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the age of 70. He was born in Pineville and was a resident of Gonzales. Terry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Conchita Gutierrez Richey; daughter, Amy Richey Underwood; son, Ty Anthony Richey and wife Jennifer; sisters Beverly Richard and Gilda Bourgeois; brother, James Richey, Jr.; and grandchildren, Madison Underwood, Emily Richey, Mary Kathryn Underwood, Sarah Richey and Maria Underwood. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, James “WJ” and Irene Lambert Richey and brother, Charles “Ronnie” Richey. Our family has lost a wonderful, loving, giving man who quietly taught us all how to live a selfless life. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University. Terry began his career as a football coach at the University of Monterrey Tech, Monterrey, Mexico then returned home as an educator and coach in Ascension Parish. He went on to the chemical industry to eventually become a Training Manager for Uniroyal/Chemture Chemical Plant. He was influential in the designing of the Process Technology (PTEC) program in Ascension. After 31 years of service, he retired his training in the chemical industry. He continued his career by volunteering his time to the City of Gonzales in a position on the Gonzales Civil Service Board for 6 years and current was serving on the City of Gonzales Planning and Commission for 8 years. Visitation is scheduled at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 9AM until a Mass of Christian Buiral at 11AM, celebrated by Rev. Eric Gyan.
