A resident of Baton Rouge and retired professional engineer with 34 years of service at Chevron Oil, he passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. He was 86 and a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. Visiting will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Saturday, June 26 from 5 pm to 8 pm, with a memorial service at 6 pm. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Jean Shepard and her husband Richard C. “Dick” Shepard; two sons, David Simmons and wife Rhonda and Stephen Simmons; brother, Bobby D. Simmons; four grandchildren, Kevin and David Shepard, Arthur F. Buras, Jr. and Amanda A. Wiggins; seven great grandchildren, Mason J. Buras, Blakely M. Wiggins, Kendhal G. Wiggins, Brittany and Aliesha Lewis, and Daniel and Grace Harvey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Annette Simmons and his brother, Bill Simmons. His most enjoyable hobby was his cabinet shop and playing with his great grandchildren. He was a member of Licensed Professional Engineers.
