Her roots were deep in Louisiana. Born in New Orleans to John and Rosetta Girshefski, Jeanne was raised the youngest of five girls in Dutchtown, amidst an extended family of numerous nieces and nephews. After graduating high school as valedictorian in 1944, she matriculated at LSU earning a degree in Home Economics. For her entire life, the triad of education, family and food sustained her.
While teaching high school in West Lake in 1948, she met and married William Frank Dunn Jr., and for the first time moved out of the south when he was posted with the Navy to San Diego. Later, along with her five children, they lived in Crown Point, Indiana, enjoying close proximity to Chicago and their community. Eventually Jeanne landed in Dallas, Texas, working for The Great American Reserve Insurance Company before retiring home to Dutchtown and her lifelong friends and family.
Jeanne is survived by her five children, Shirley Dunn, James Dunn and his wife Reem, William Dunn III and his wife Joyce, John Dunn, Christopher Dunn and his wife Susan; grandchildren, William, Sean, Rachel, Michael, Samuel, Cassie, Ian, Maddie and Max; grandsons-in-law, Justin Rubio and Garrett McKinney; great-granddaughter, Scarlett Rubio; beloved niece and goddaughter Cynthia Savoy; and numerous godchildren and extended family, all well-loved.
She was preceded in death by those she held especially dear, her parents John and Rosetta; sisters, Sr. Mary Jeanne, Ruth, Mae, Ethel; and husband, Bill.

The family would like to remember that Jeanne took great pleasure at her table. To her, food was more than a means to an end, it was where love exchanged hands. Decades of cooking for a large, extended family produced over 50,000 meals served and no one ever entered her home without being offered welcome, sustenance, and love.
