

John Glenn Mayers Sr., 57, of Gonzales, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. A retired process technician, he was a graduate of East Ascension High School and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Prairieville Volunteer Fire Department, having served as president in 1982 and 1988, and awarded Firefighter of the Year in 1982. His lifetime hobbies were recreational sports, including competing as a Golden Gloves boxer, and a dedicated LSU sports fan with membership in the Dutchtown Bass Club, membership in the Greensburg Hunting Club and volunteering as a softball coach. Survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda Trahan Mayers; son, John Mayers Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and William Brown, Shara and John Otwell, Megan and Travis D'Amico; close family friend, Lanee Pollock; brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew and Karen Mayers, Wickliff Jr. and Cathy Mayers; sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn Mayers Gautreau, Carolyn and Larry Dominique and Judy and Johnny Johnson; and grandchildren, Trisha Gutierrez, John Bustoz II, Joshua Bustoz, Kadyn Otwell, Tristin D'Amico, Kennedy Otwell, Paisley Mayers and Emmy D'Amico. Preceded in death by his parents, Wickliff Sr. and Clarabelle Boudreaux Mayers. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Thursday, Aug. 12, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, Friday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Gyan, celebrant. Burial at Hope Haven Garden of Memory, Prairieville. Pallbearers will be Chad Gautreau, Tate Mayers, Dwayne Mayers, Tommy Trahan, Kelly Molliere and Danny Waggenspack. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jerry Bedgood, Philip Dominique and Lane Gautreau.
