

Joseph Keith Melancon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud U.S. Army veteran, passed away on May 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 5, 1946, Joseph was a lifelong resident of Sorrento, Louisiana, where he built a good life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Joseph worked most of his life as an electrician, a trade he approached with diligence, skill, and an unwavering work ethic. He was the one family and friends called when something needed fixing—steady, reliable, and generous with his time. His military service in the U.S. Army was a source of quiet pride, and he cherished the values it instilled in him: integrity, perseverance, and loyalty.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Blum Melancon; his children, JoAnn Melancon and Brian Melancon; his brother, John Neil Melancon (Cathy); grandchildren, Nicole Johnson and Brianna Rojas; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Bayard and Kylan Marlow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Joseph Melancon and Doris Arceneaux Melancon; daughter, Mirrion P. Moran; sister, Mary "Roz" Melancon Wheat; and granddaughter, Kelsi B. Johnson.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Sorrento, LA, beginning at 10:00 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 AM. A Committal Service will take place afterwards at Louisiana National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin Melancon, Royce Wheat, Tad Poche, John "Bean" Vaughan, Jason Bayard, and Lee "Joe" Paille. Honorary Pallbearers will be Earney Guedry and Ryan "Gabe" Fornoff.
Joseph will be remembered for his steady hands, kind heart, and the love he poured into his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the generations who carry his name and spirit forward. May he rest in eternal peace.
