

A native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Gonzales, he died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 86 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Visitation at St. Mark Catholic Church in Gonzales on Monday, March 11, from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Rubin Reynolds, celebrant. There will be a recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery, Gretna. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Marcelle Mataya O'Quain; daughter, Deborah O'Quain Adams; three sons, Joseph Melvin O'Quain Jr. and wife Melissa, Keith A. O'Quain and wife Ella Mae, and Darrell L. O'Quain; sister, Doris Olson; brother, Claude Trahan Jr.; brother-in-law, Gerald Mataya and wife Bernadine; grandchildren, Joseph M. O'Quain III and wife Kim, Mark A. O'Quain and wife Jennifer, Tommy W. Adams Jr. and wife Tricia, Keith A. O'Quain Jr. and wife Kelly, and Kimberly O'Quain Hymel and husband Blake; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sabrina, Ethan, Emma, Evan, Bryce and Reece O'Quain and Abby Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Neomie Morvant Trahan; granddaughter, Tiffany Nicole O'Quain; sister, Vivian Trahan Reich; brother, Sam O'Quain; brothers-in-law, Bernard Reich and Emile V. Olson; and sister-in-law, Cyril Trahan. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and was honored by the Vatican for his hand made stations of the Cross.
