Laurence "Captain Zeus" Joseph Ledet

Laurence “Captain Zeus” Ledet, a native of Bourg, LA and resident of Gonzales, LA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on January 12, 2023, at 6:08 a.m. at the age of 83. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Laurence spent his early career as a Tugboat Pilot on the Mississippi until he opened his own business “Captain Zeus’ Restaurant & Bar” to serve his fellow working men on the river and later “Corner Mart Grocery” to serve his community. Always known as a “giver,” he had a passion for growing an abundant vegetable garden and giving it all away. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed raising several farm animals, but he especially loved his horses, cows, and chickens. A perfect day for Zeus would be waking up early, drinking a cup of black coffee while watching his garden grow and his cows graze. He would spend the evening with family; especially his grandchildren that were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the love of his life, Elaine M. Toups Ledet; their three children, Danny Ledet and wife, December, Nell Ledet Childers and husband, Tim, Scott Ledet Sr. and wife, Dessa; seven grandchildren, Lauren Guedry, Zachary Ledet, Brooke Guedry, Dylan Ledet, Dane Ledet, Scott Ledet Jr., and Layken Ledet; brothers, Clifford (late Rita), Jimmy (Theresa), Lenny (Dan); sisters, Mabel Rogers (late George), Elaine Madere (late Ronnie), and Velma Farve (late Butch). He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel Thibodeaux Ledet; brothers, Rudolph (Mary Ann), William Jr. (Betty), David (Scharlene), Larry (Jamie); sisters, Rosalie Chelette (Ray), Geraldine Cardinel (Russell), Jenny Pendleton (John), Adele Ledet; and God children, Connie Daigle, Troy Rogers, Danny J Ledet The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge. The care Zeus received in his final months from his care team, Christin, Terri, Lacy, Carla and Geary was exceptional. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Amant, LA on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, followed by Mass and Christian burial. A reception will be held immediately after at the Holy Rosary church center. Pallbearers will be Zachary Ledet, Scott Ledet Jr., Hank Hollie Jr., Jared Vaughn, Tim Childers, Lenny Ledet, George Snyder, and Todd Long. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clifford Ledet and Jimmy Ledet.
