

A true gentleman, soldier, dear friend, neighbor, faithful church member, husband, father and grandfather, Leo Morris Hataway died peacefully at St. James medical facility in Lutcher on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at 4:20 a.m. after battling with congestive heart failure and pneumonia. He was 93 years young, a resident of Gonzales and a native of Waskom, Texas. Leo was a retired accountant from Ormet Corp. in Burnside. He was a dedicated volunteer at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center for 12 years and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1999 and was also a volunteer with the Internal Revenue Service for more than 20 years through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Leo was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gonzales, a member of New River Masonic Lodge 402 in Gonzales and Deridder Masonic Lodge 271 for 71 years of his amazing life. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at First United Methodist Church of Gonzales on Monday, Oct. 4, from 8 a.m. until religious services at 9:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Goins. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery located in DeRidder at 4 p.m. Survived by his only daughter, Mary Ann Boggs and her husband, the Rev. Leon Boggs, of Minden; granddaughter, Marcie Leigh Duhon, of Minden, along with her children, Damien and Erik; grandsons, Robert and Elizabeth Boggs, of Slidell, along with their children, Nicholas and Olivia; and granddaughter, Aimee St. Claire and husband Shelby with his son, Tre, of Gonzales. He is also survived by his adopted son, John Easterly Jr., of Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Frazier; parents, Edward and Lillie Hataway; brother, Coy Hataway; and sister, Nena H. Hattaway. The family wishes to thank Pinnacle Home Health, the wonderful staff of St. Elizabeth's Hospital, St. James Parish Hospital and River Region Hospice for their attentive, loving care of "Mr. Leo."
