

A lifetime resident of Gonzales, he passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at the age of 76. He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany. A retired manager from Thomas Marine, he served a term as the head of the Louisiana Used Motor Vehicles Commission, was active in the Louisiana Marine Trade Association, and the best fish fry cook in town. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Sharla Miller Gautreau; daughter, Renee Braud and husband Timmy; two sons, Quin Gautreau and wife Lydia, and Kyle Gautreau and wife Robin; two stepdaughters, Jill Schexnayder and husband Tim, and Joni Allen; two stepsons, Benny Laiche, and Steve Laiche and wife Andi; sister, Melba Thomas; two brothers, Harold Gautreau and wife Lorraine, and Carol Gautreau and wife Ouida; 14 grandchildren, Cody Gautreau, Cade Gautreau, Kolby Gautreau, Jordan Remondet, Tori and BJ Duplessis, Tyler Braud, Shannon and Ron Savoy, Britt Laiche, Laura Laiche, Ashley and Adam Badeaux, and Justin Schexnayder; and great-grandchild, Reeve Savoy. Preceded in death by his parents, J.P. “Blank” Gautreau and Carrie Braud Gautreau; sister, Ethelyn M. Gautreau; and first wife, Peggy Humphrey Gautreau. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 am until funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery, Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Cody Gautreau, Cade Gautreau, Kolby Gautreau, Tyler Braud, Mark Gautreau, and Todd Gautreau.
